About Us
Father John's profile
CommStrength is a public benevolent institution aimed at the prevention of suicide amongst youth in the Newcastle and Hunter Valley regions.
The CommStrength Foundation was established in 1994 and has over the past 15 years helped countless young people experiencing problems. On average, the CommStrength Foundation helps over 150 people every year, and endeavours to maintain an ongoing interaction with them to offer constant support. Although CommStrength began in the Hunter, the breadth of our work is also now beginning to reach across the Nation
How is CommStrength funded?
CommStrength is funded soley through the generosity of the people of Newcastle and Hunter. This allows it to provide independent advice and support to those in need.
What does CommStrength do with the funds it receives?
Every dollar that CommStrength receives is directed to helping young people who are at risk of suicide. The donations are applied to the basic needs of the Foundation, particularly operating expenses, to ensure that they are able to provide the best support possible. No wages are paid as all work is done freely and voluntarily.
Such donations are a much needed support for the continuation of the CommStrength Foundation. The Mental Health Council of Australia is predicting that depression will become the world’s greatest health problem by the year 2020 and we are seeking to help prevent this and direct those who are suffering towards hope, possibility and a brighter future.
